Admission: Applications for admission are accepted from 10:00 to 14.00 only. A letter of introduction or an up-to-date professional identity card is required. A photograph for the reader’s card will be taken on the spot. Access is normally granted to those working on the doctorate (“dottorandi”), to university instructors (professors, adjunct professors, and researchers) and to staff of archaeological superintendencies and museums. Access is not granted to readers with the four-year degree (“laurea quadriennale secondo il vecchio ordinamento") or three-year degree (“laurea triennale secondo il nuovo ordinamento"). Students in their fifth year of a specialized degree ("quinto anno della laurea specialistica”) are, however, admitted. When a publication is owned only by this institute, it is possible to obtain a daily pass, by making an appointment between 10:00 and 14:00.

Information for readers: The library of the Ecole française covers history, archaeology and social sciences. The institute is not a French cultural centre, nor does it specialise in the history of art. In the fields of history and archaeology, the library acquires chiefly publications on Italy and the Western Mediterranean (including the Maghreb and the Balkans). The languages of publications acquired ar4e chiefly Italian, French and German. Documents with the locations MAGASIN, FF, and PG are in storage, requiring a special reserve request.

Hours: 10:00-19:00 M-F.
