History

The URBS network was officially founded in February 1992 through the efforts of various academies in Rome, the Vatican Library and under the aegis of the International Union of Institutes of Archaeology, History and History of Art in Rome.

Today URBS is composed of 5 institutional members. These are academies and/or research institutes of Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland. One of the primary aims of URBS is to offer its users special library services, electronic resources, and a coordinated collective catalog of libraries in Rome which are specialized in humanistic disciplines and in the social sciences. It is with this aim in mind, the consortium adopted open source software (KOHA) for the integrated management of its resources.

The Consortium is a member of Art Libraries Group, OCLC World Cat and the Wikidata Group for Museums, Archives and Libraries (GWMAB).

La rete URBS ha tuttora il patrocinio dell’Unione internazionale degli istituti di archeologia, storia e storia dell’arte in Roma ed è membro di Art Libraries Group, OCLC World Cat e del Wikidata Group for Museums, Archives and Libraries (GWMAB).
